So the big feedback I got about the newly re-launched longform Live Girl Review is that I need transitions between the different sections of the show. In each episode, I’m reviewing a book, movie, and sex toy, plus Jamye Waxman gives a sex tip, I shit talk a product in “bad press” and then end on a high note with a fangirl moment.
I spent yesterday making graphics for all the different parts of the show - I am talking with an animator about making cute little animations for each of these sections, but that will be a while in the making. The pictures of crazy looking dildos on each of the graphics are from the One Nation Under Dildo (link goes to a set of Flickr photos, you have to have a login to see them because my account is marked dirty), which was part of the Sex Worker Visions show I curated for $pread in 2007. We got sex workers from all over the US and Canada to decorate dildos, which we then displayed at Arena Studios in New York.
As I type this, my boyfriend is in the other room composing music for the show, so in the episode that goes up on Wednesday, August 27th I’ll have some nice tweaks the make it seem a little more professional: intro, outro, transitional twinkles. Yay for that. In the meantime, I couldn’t resist sharing the kinda silly looking graphics I made for each section of the show. My design skills leave a lot to be desired, so I kept it simple, but I think these are pretty awesome.

Don’t really like the artwork (even though I do like the sentiment.) Some of the dildos look really weird.
I used to draw, but I’ve been to distracted by the net and the Xbox lately. I can see if I can come up with a graphic or two if you like.

You’re welcome to give it a whirl if you like, I DIY’d it because I needed it done quickly and had an idea that wasn’t totally terrible (or at least I don’ think so).

I have ALWAYS dreamed of doing this with dildos and I love how they turned out. Go for it! I think the home art project feel gives the graphics a “daily candy” sorta anti-computer-graphics-sophistication appeal, one that matches the content–not overly produced but creative and real.
