$pread needs your help
December 19, 2006
This past weekend, $pread got some very bad news. The company that runs our online store for subscriptions and merch is going under, effective immediately, which presents problems like: we don’t have a store. This is entirely fixable, and it looks like we’re going to start using Google shop, though we’re experiencing a few days without an online store while that gets sorted out.
What’s not fixable is this: part of the reason the company shut down is because they owed their bank a lot of money, so the bank has seized everything in their accounts, including several thousand dollars of money that was due to $pread and was to be used to print our next issue.
So - though I’ve never asked my readers for money, I would love it if you could donate whatever you can to help sustain this important project that means the world not just to me, but to the sex workers who feel supported and encouraged by reading a magazine made by and for them. $pread is a unique venture that needs to exist in this world, and we need help regaining our foothold.
You can paypal us money using the email address info@spreadmagazine.org or if you prefer to write a check, it can be made out to $pread Magazine and sent to PO Box 305, Cooper Station, NY, NY 10276
Here is our page with further information about donations.
If you enjoy and have been educated by what I do here and at $pread, I’d really appreciate it if you help us out. And feel free to repost this elsewhere.

Yikes! I sent something to $pread recently via snail mail and I’m glad I didn’t use the online shop. That sucks.
Do you know if recent purchases on the shop are still being processed? I recently bought a gift subscription for a friend maybe a week ago.

Yes, recent orders are being processed - but by us and not the company that was supposed to be doing order fulfillment. We’ll be sending out everything once we get the records from them as to what has been fulfilled so far. Either way, we handle the subscription list ourselves, but if you want to make totally sure, email eliyanna@spreadmagazine.org to make sure your friend is on the sub list.

I’m assuming your store was being handled by a certain just-went-under company who’s bankruptcy is effecting a bunch of people? I’m sorry to hear about about your troubles, either way.
I don’t have cash to spare, but I’ll make $pread the next nonprofit to get the small monthly donation from VegPorn.com- I send 5% of membership sales to some project I feel is doing great things.

Would taking out a subscription be helpful? I know about $pread, but have never read it before because its not on local magazine racks. I like the work $pread is doing, though.

Yes, theoretically taking out a subscription would be helpful, but we don’t have an online store for you to do that right now. If you want to donate and request a subscription with your donation, you can leave a note with the PayPal donation form.

Furry Girl-You gave me an idea. I wrote about this on my blog. I can’t donate any sales but I asked my readers to donate and promised to give them a shout out in a future entry if they did. Maybe more sex bloggers can mention $pread in a post and spread the word about donating.

I don’t have much money, but I’d be willing to donate some time and work. What about putting together a project like the Bi Apple, but on a smaller scale? If that’s a possibility, let me know.
