What are you working on?
March 04, 2006
If you mosey on over to Mark Pritchard’s “What are you working on?” you can find out (almost) all about what I’ve got up my sleeves. My sleeves, apparently, are awesomely big.
The quick run down is:
I’ve recently become the editor of SugarClick.com (as you know).
I’m organizing a NYC sex blogger reading, called the Perverts’ Saloon, which is taking place at Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Monday, April 3 from 8 to 10 pm.
I’m wrapping up edits and we’re heading into hardcore design phase for the spring issue of $pread - which is our birthday issue.
Said issue of $pread is being released in conjunction with the Sex Work Matters conference on Thursday, March 30, where I am co-moderating a roundtable with Melissa Gira called “Managing Roles: Sex Workers, Activists and Academics.”
Last but not least, I am curating an art show to benefit $pread called Sex Worker Visions, which has an opening on March 29th from 6-9 pm at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center and will feature art by and about people who work in the sex industry. On the night of the opening only we will have lots of cool interactive art, plus special appearances by awesome people. Fuller details in the interview at “What are you working on?”.
I had my sleep removed and my blood replaced with coca-cola. Just kidding. Kind of.
Also, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Paul Sarkis, Anton Diaz and I are apparently part of the “New York ‘sexerati’” according to this press release.

Oooo! The Sex Work Matters conference was mentioned in my women’s studies class!
It’s awesome that you’re a part of it! :)

Hey! Came across this blog after seeing you in Time Out New York a while back. Saw your awesomeness and remembered, “Hey! I had the pleasure of having an awesome massage from ths awesome lass a while back…”
Now, hope that isn’t creepy. Because that’s not the intention. But I honestly think you are one of the most awesome NYC ‘sexperts’ ever. Not only do you have a rockin’ body, but you truly have brains. Truly have intelligence. And truly have talent. And I’m not talking about the time we spent ;) I mean, you are truly a gifted writer. And reading your work reminds me of some of the better west coast writers I’ve read and also some of the ‘golden age’ writers in NYC back about 10-20 years ago. I’m not that old, but that astute.
So anyway, I’m quite happy to see someone like you is truly spreading her wings. You really kick ass. And remind me in many ways of a post-modern Annie Sprinkle with fishnets and a punk edge. And that’s great.
Keep on rockin’!

Is “sexerati” a word now? And is it still fresh and new enough for you to copyright it or trademark it or do something to capitalize on it before the trendies and the hipsters and the trendy-hipsters and the hipster-trendies use it, abuse it, then run it into the ground by name-checking it in every media sex event that happens, or posting it as bylines to already popular scenemaker-saturated locales (“The Meatpacking District vs. Below Delancey Street: Where Will The Sexerati Roost Next?”)…
Given that you need money to further your personal endeavors, I’d hate to see you miss out on some easy cultural zeitgeist loot…I used to remember what “alternative” was before it was mainstream!

When we take over Galapagos next month I want to be the tortoise.
