Over the last few years, I have had numerous instances in which I have been confused for Rachel Kramer Bussel and Jamye Waxman. This happened a bunch of times on Friday night at the calendar party, so I decided to write a primer so you can tell the differences among us, once and for all. On very rare occasions I get mixed up with other sex writers – someone on MySpace just complimented my column in the SF Chronicle. I guess if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen em all.
But no! The differences between us are subtle but significant.
This is Rachel Kramer Bussel.
Common mistakes: We both wear glasses, skirts, displays of cleavage, have long dark hair, and are occasionally socially awkward.
Dead giveaway: Rachel always carries lots of bags. She doesn’t have tattoos.
This is Jamye Waxman.
Common mistakes: We both have curly dark hair that is about the same length; when Jamye wears glasses things get extra confusing.
Dead giveaways: Jamye wears glitter eyeshadow. She’s more outgoing than I am.
Bonus round, since she’s back in town and got confused for me on Friday:
This is Marisa DiMattia.
Common mistakes: Curly hair, lots of black clothing, tattoos.
Dead giveaways: Marisa is a redhead. Her tattoos are black, mine have color.
And that’s me.
Dead giveaways: I’m usually wearing some combination of red, black and animal print. And boots.

Heheh, this post completely cracked me up – though that probably wasn’t the intent. I can’t believe people confuse the lot of you so often – to me, you each seem so unique and individual that I can’t imagine confusing one with the other. People must get dazzled by all that cleavage and get confused.

Oh, its totally meant to be funny. I mean, it IS funny. Sometimes when Jamye and I are standing next to each other people aren’t sure who is who – I usually make a point of saying that she’s the Jew and I’m the Italian.

I love this post and while I can’t imagine confusing the lot of you – you are all so unique – I absolutely love the way you break it down. It’s like a typology of sex writers: tattoos, clothing preferences, eye wear, hair color and length .. categorization is easy, memorization of combinations apparently more difficult for some

I define people by hair and eyes. You and Jamye have very different eyes, so that helped me separate in my head, cause the hair is definitely similar. It doesn’t help, however, that every time I’ve seen you in person, she’s been two feet away, lol!

You’re like the Renee Zellwigler/Joey Lauren Adams of the sex blogger world. I know I spelled that name wrong up there but I’m not gonna look it up, ’cause I’m efficient.
I think I was mistaken for nobody, possibly. I can’t imagine not being able to tell the three of you apart, but I’ve heard my friends make the same mistake — “wait, which is the one with the reading series? Rachel Ray?” etc.
