First of all, to get the full visual array of Bi Apple release party excitement, you should have a look at the Fleshbot coverage.
The whole night was a bit of a blur, not because I was drinking, but because I was squeezing through the crowd a lot, talking to friends and strangers, trying to judge when we should put the next act up on stage, locating the items I had brought along for raffles, and doing damage control. Its kinda peculiar that for someone (me) who isn’t a huge fan of going to parties (especially on weekends, yuck) I am a pretty good party promoter-slash-hostess. It’s actually pretty fun, and in no small part because I like to watch other people get drunk, and if they are my friends, I like to fuck with them a little bit. Heh heh.
We had some really hot performances, and one of the highest compliments I’ve gotten about the night from Rachel Kramer Bussel (and others as well) is that everything was extremely sexy without being sleazy. I wonder if that’s an aura that could be duplicated – the concept of monthly parties is being kicked around – or if over time, sleaze would creep in. In a lot of ways, the party was the extension of one of the things I was really focused on doing with filming of The Bi Apple – I managed to create a sex work environment where the workers were paid fairly (we didn’t charge the strippers a “stage fee” to work on Saturday night, and paid them a base fee instead). Good entertainment and hot awesomeness aside, I think this is the thing I have been most proud of throughout this whole process: I have been a good adult employer. I paid everyone involved in making the movie and doing the party, and that felt awesome, it felt like success, and like I’m putting my money where my mouth is. I will probably never shut up about the problems with the adult industry, but its been pretty awesome to wrestle with some of them on this level and do good.
The highest compliment I got all night, however, was the fact that several people asked me, “Who does your PR?” My response was, “Me – and all those people with cameras and blogs out in the crowd.” It’s funny that although I did a bit of press stuff (see this really awesome piece in the NY Press), for the most part, I relied on the fact that I do my own press. Its probably a little short-sighted to be as lazy with print media as I am, and I know that relying on internet press is stupid and too easily within my comfort zones, but at the same time – the internet is awesome. I could go on forever and perhaps more eloquently about this whole internet business (right, that whole book thing) so for now I’ll leave it at that, and go on to – nudity!
I guest-listed some of my close friends, as well as some of my boyfriend’s friends and work colleagues. My dude ran into one of his colleagues as I was getting involved in some on-stage antics, and with perfect comic timing, the colleague asked, “Where’s your girlfriend?” and my dude pointed me out just as I got naked on stage. Later, when I was mingling in the crowd again and my dude introduced me to his colleagues, they were surprised to learn that I had gotten naked in front of a very crowded room with no alcohol in my system whatsoever. This is, according to my dude, because I am “good to go.” I guess I really can’t shake my exhibitionist tendencies, as much as I sometimes think they are in remission.

Question with regards to no booze required exhibitionism. I find I am the same way, but only when I am feeling safe. Not in terms of the law, but in terms of the vibe of the situation. When it is sex worker friendly, female friendly, queer friendly, kink friendly – off come the clothes, etc…
But in other more negative situations I find my self more conservative.
Are you the same way? Or is the exhibitionistic streak strong across most situations, even the more negative ones?

That’s what I love about events like yours. The fact that they’re so sexy/sensual while being the farthest thing ever from sleazy. Part of it is the vision you’re projecting through the projects you do, and part of it is the crowd/support system that comes along with that…the people who really get what you’re doing.
Part was awesome by the way. I especially enjoyed Cherry Bomb’s dance.

playing a great host(ess) is always better than a party. it’s how I usually have fun these days.

Seska – its absolutely about feeling safe. When I feel safe, getting naked is easy and not a thing at all. But I also can have my guard up something fierce – for example, when I was in Vegas at AEE, I stayed very clothed on the convention floor and at the after parties (except for briefing flashing Gram Ponante) because it just felt bad and icky to me.
